Month of June was fairly good and could catch up with the normal rains in Mumbai. However, month of July, the rainiest month for the city, has mostly remained quiet, so far.
Airport observatory at Santacruz has recorded total of 168.4mm rainfall in the first 11 days of the month. Regional observatory at Colaba also remained silent and has clocked just 95.8mm rainfall, between 01st and 11th July 2025. And, the sore point is, there are no typical Mumbai rains likely over the next ten days. The stretch may get longer, as well.
Strong westerly monsoon stream from the Arabian Sea meeting head-on the Konkan Coast remains in abeyance. The semi-permanent off-shore trough also dodging appearance. The monsoon systems from the Bay of Bengal are losing steam, much before reaching the convergence zone of South West Madhya Pradesh and North Madhya Maharashtra. The current low pressure area over Jharkhand has already weakened. The remnant cyclonic circulation will also become soft, while it travels up to Southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh on 13th and 14th July 2025. Still, its presence will increase the weather activity over and around Mumbai during those two days.
Mumbai will continue to have light, patchy and short duration showers, today and tomorrow. Courtesy, the cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, scale and strength of showers will become moderate on 13th and 14th July. One odd spell of heavy showers, albeit short duration, will remain a possibility. The rainfall will go mild again from 15th July onwards. There will not be any chance of early revival and the weak phase may spill over to the fourth week of July.
