July is the rainiest month for Mumbai with an average of 840.7 mm rainfall. Both the observatories, Santacruz and Colaba, recorded light showers during the last three days. The city is likely to observe mild weather activity for the next 8–10 days. Typical Mumbai heavy downpour may happen only during the second half of August. The current month of July 2025 may go on record to register the lowest monthly rainfall of the last one decade.

The airport observatory did record over 100 mm rainfall in 24 hours on two occasions, 20th and 21st July 2025. It also missed the century mark on two other days when rainfall of 85 mm and 97 mm was recorded on 22nd and 25th July 2025. Santacruz has recorded 787.8 mm rainfall between 01st and 29th July and falls short of the monthly normal of 840.7 mm.

The capital city of Mumbai had a record of crossing the average rainfall of July for the last nine consecutive years. Between 2018 and 2024, the rainfall exceeded 1000 mm, year on year. The earliest record highest of 1502.6 mm rainfall in July 2020 was surpassed with the highest ever of 1734 mm in July 2023. The lowest rainfall in this month over the last one decade was 359.1 mm, measured in July 2015.

Mumbai gets heavy rainfall under select situations. A strong westerly stream from the Arabian Sea, meeting head-on with the Konkan Coast, gives copious rainfall over the city. The emergence of a strong monsoon system over the Bay of Bengal and its subsequent inland movement also favours heavy rains over the Konkan region. An active offshore trough along the Western Ghats is another feature for triggering typical Mumbai rains. None of these systems are likely to come up over the next 10 days.

On the contrary, the monsoon is expected to go into a pause for most parts of the country at the start of August. The West Coast is also likely to go silent, as break-in-monsoon conditions are anticipated in the first week of August. Presently, one low-pressure area is marked over North Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan. The proximity of the system may result in one or two moderate showers over the city and suburbs, sometime today in the late afternoon/evening. Otherwise, the coastal city of Mumbai, along with the suburbs, is likely to observe a very lean phase of the monsoon, commencing now and lasting till 10th August 2025.
