Key Takeaways

  • Bengaluru has recorded an extremely low 2 mm of rainfall this November, far below the normal 64.5 mm.
  • Cyclone Ditwah will weaken but still push rain-bearing clouds toward Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
  • Bengaluru is likely to receive moderate showers between 29 and 30 November, with clouding building from tomorrow.
  • Weather is expected to clear by 05–06 December after brief light rains midweek.

The high-tech city of Bengaluru has remained largely dry in the month of November. The city observatory has recorded just 2 mm of rainfall so far, with the HAL observatory faring only slightly better. The normal rainfall for this month is 64.5 mm. This means the city has nearly remained parched in the winter monsoon month for the South Peninsula. Such low rainfall amounts were last seen in November 2016, when the city recorded only 1.5 mm. However, this weekend is likely to break the jinx as scattered showers may drench the city and suburbs.

Cyclonic Storm Ditwah is bringing torrential rains over Sri Lanka and the neighbourhood. This storm is likely to enter the Southwest Bay of Bengal, off the Tamil Nadu coast, tomorrow forenoon. Though the cyclone will weaken considerably while tracking northward off the Tamil Nadu coastline, the peripherals of the system will dump heavy rainfall over the interior parts of the state and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh. A belt of decent moderate to heavy showers is also likely over South Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru, and Rayalaseema.

The sky may become partly cloudy today, but the chances of any rainfall are minimal. Tomorrow, when the system enters the Bay of Bengal off the South Tamil Nadu coast, clouds will start gathering over the city and surroundings—more prominently in the second half of the day. The intensity and spread of showers will increase on 29 and 30 November, especially between the late evening of 29 November and the forenoon of 30 November. Light rain may continue for a brief period until midweek next. A broad clearance is expected around the next weekend, between 05 and 06 December 2025.
