The deep depression over North Gujarat and South Rajasthan moved westward over Sind (Pakistan) yesterday. The weather system, earlier, lay centered northeast of Hyderabad (Pakistan). The depression moved further west-southwest and weakened to a low-pressure area over Southeast Pakistan, in the proximity of the Makran Coast. It is likely to weaken further and may get filled up over the barren lands of Balochistan.

The weather system lashed parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan over the last weekend. Kutch region received heavy rainfall yesterday as well. Bhuj and Naliya recorded 77 mm and 50 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours. Otherwise, the port city of Kandla amassed 235 mm rainfall, more than its monthly normal, in the last four days. Even the parched area of Bhuj was drowned with 163 mm rainfall in the past 48 hours. Earlier, the capital city Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad also got drenched with heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday.

With the weakening of the system and simultaneous drift away from the coastline of Gujarat, the weather conditions will improve significantly, commencing today itself. Cloud cover, strong surface winds, and scattered light rains will continue over Kutch and western parts of Saurashtra today. The intensity and spread of these rains will get softened further over the next 48 hours. However, monsoon rains are not yet ‘over and done’ for the state, and another wet spell is expected at the start of next week.
