Key Takeaways:

  • Delhi temperatures are currently running 4°-5°C below normal.
  • Rain and thunderstorm activity is likely between June 3 and June 6.
  • Strong gusty winds and dust storms may accompany thunderstorms on June 4 and 5.
  • Temperatures are expected to remain below 40°C throughout the week.

Month of June has started on a dry note for the national capital. Thunderstorm activity of the previous week is still carrying forward comfortable weather conditions. Day temperatures continue to remain below normal by 4°-5°C across the Delhi region. However, temperatures are expected to rise gradually through the week and may barely touch the normal mark of 40°C toward the fag end of the week. No significant weather activity is likely today and the maximum temperature may settle around 37°C (+/-1°C).

Delhi typically witnesses a mix of weather conditions during June. The Southwest Monsoon normally reaches the city during the last week of the month, with the normal onset date being June 27. The first half of June is usually quite hot, with temperatures often soaring to 45°C or even higher.

The highest temperature recorded in June since 2010 was 46.8°C on June 30, 2024. The 46°C mark was also breached on June 27, 2020. Last year, the highest temperature during the month stood at 42.3°C, recorded on June 16.

Rainfall activity also increases substantially during June due to a combination of pre-monsoon and monsoon systems. The city normally receives around 80.6 mm rainfall during the month. However, rainfall variability remains significantly high. Last year, Safdarjung observatory recorded 186.4 mm rainfall during June, whereas the previous year remained almost dry with just 0.4 mm rainfall.

At present, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over Central Pakistan and adjoining border areas. Another feeble cyclonic circulation is marked over Southwest Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring Madhya Pradesh. The trough joining these two systems is passing close to Delhi.

Trending:

Meanwhile, a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to arrive over the mountains tomorrow. This system will energize the existing weather features and trigger widespread weather activity between June 3 and June 5. Residual effects may continue on June 6 as well. Today, temperatures may rise marginally and easterly winds are likely to increase humidity levels across the city.

Rain and thundershowers are expected between June 3 and June 6, with more intense activity likely on June 4 and 5. Thunderstorm and dust storm activity accompanied by strong gusty winds is also likely during this period. Temperatures are expected to remain below 40°C throughout the week.
