Jaipur Struck With Cold Wave: Records Lowest Temperature; Other Parts Too In Grip
Key Takeaways
- Jaipur recorded its coldest temperature of the season at 4.4°C.
- The city is currently colder than Delhi and Amritsar.
- Several Rajasthan stations have logged season’s lowest temperatures.
- Cold wave conditions are expected to persist through the week and possibly beyond.
Cold wave conditions have gripped the capital city of Jaipur, as it recorded the lowest temperature of this winter. The minimum temperature plunged to 4.4°C, overtaking the earlier season’s low of 6.2°C registered yesterday. The capital city is now colder than Delhi and Amritsar, which usually record lower temperatures than the City of Forts and Palaces. Jaipur has been recording minimum temperatures below 7°C for the last four days and is likely to remain under extreme cold conditions through the week.
Earlier, the ‘Pink City’ had dipped to minimum temperatures of 4°C or lower in only three years since 2015. The lowest readings were observed on January 16, 2016 (4.0°C), January 11, 2017 (3.8°C), and January 6, 2023 (3.6°C), with the last being the all-time record low for the month. The mean minimum temperature for January stands at 8.4°C.
Several other stations across Rajasthan have also recorded their lowest temperatures of the season. Bikaner recorded 5.9°C, Phalodi 4.1°C, Jaisalmer 3.3°C, and Sikar dipped to a chilly 2.5°C. No active western disturbance is expected to affect the region, and therefore, no significant relief from the cold is likely during the week. The extreme cold conditions may even spill over into the next week.
