Most parts of Delhi witnessed dry weather conditions during the past 24 hours. Day temperatures rose appreciably, and the feel-like index breached the 40°C mark. The base station Safdarjung recorded a day maximum of 38.1°C, a rise of 5°C from the previous day, though still a notch below normal. Temperatures are likely to increase further, and relief is expected much later in the night.
A western disturbance has arrived over the mountains. An induced cyclonic circulation is marked over Central Pakistan and adjoining border areas. Another feeble cyclonic circulation is lying over Northwest Uttar Pradesh at the friction level of 3,000 feet. The trough joining these two circulations is extending up to Bihar. On the western end, it runs north of Delhi while remaining in close proximity to the region.
Localized heating and the vicinity of the trough are likely to trigger convective activity late in the evening. A spell of rain and thunderstorm is expected during the late-night hours. This may be preceded by strong gusty winds, kicking up dust and reducing visibility. Air operations may get temporarily impacted between midnight and the early morning hours.
A typical pre-monsoonal weather pattern, with brief spells of thunderstorm activity, will prevail over and around Delhi during the next about 5 days. Weather activity will remain weak and occur mostly during nighttime hours. The intensity and spread are likely to be slightly higher tonight and tomorrow.
Temperatures may breach the 40°C mark today and tomorrow before dropping later during the weekend. Broad clearance in weather activity can be expected around 23rd June and during the following week.
