Maharashtra Hottest Region Of Country: Rain-Thundershowers Likely
Key Takeaways:
- Vidarbha remains the hottest region with temperatures crossing 40°C
- Heat likely to ease with a drop of 5°–6°C due to pre-monsoon activity
- Thunderstorm activity to intensify between April 1 and April 3
- Hailstorms possible over interior Maharashtra between April 5 and April 8
Landlocked sub-divisions of Maharashtra have been the hottest pockets of the country. In that too, Vidarbha is scoring over others, with temperatures breaching 40°C across the region. Akola and Amraoti have recorded the highest temperatures of the country for the last few days. Yesterday, Akola was the hottest city with a maximum temperature of 41.4°C. Other cities of Vidarbha like Brahmapuri, Washim, Wardha, Chandrapur, Gondia, Gadchiroli, and Yeotmal also recorded day temperatures between 40°–41°C. The pre-monsoon activity is likely to lash many parts of the state over the next one week. The extreme heat will ease out from most parts, as the mercury is likely to drop by 5°–6°C.
Small-scale heat-triggered circulations have come up over different parts of the country. A cyclonic circulation in the lower levels is marked over interior parts of Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh. A north-south trough/wind discontinuity, typical of the pre-monsoon season, is extending from this feature up to Tamil Nadu across Vidarbha, Telangana, and Karnataka. An embedded circulation in the trough is marked over interior Karnataka in the proximity of Marathwada-Vidarbha. This situation will persist, and the wind discontinuity will oscillate east-west over interiors of the South Peninsula and central region of Maharashtra.
The state of Maharashtra will have pre-monsoon thunderstorm activity over the next one week or even beyond. Thunderstorms will start with Vidarbha, more visibly from tomorrow onward. The spread and intensity will increase subsequently between 01st and 03rd April. With the countrywide increase in the pre-monsoon activity between 04th and 08th April 2026, most parts of Maharashtra will also join. Even the Konkan region will have the season’s first showers, including Mumbai, at the start of next week. Interiors of the state will have some hailstorm activity between 05th and 08th April 2026.
