Rainy Days For Northeast India Ahead: Rains Likely In Assam On Polls Day
Key Takeaways:
- Pre-monsoon showers to continue across Northeast India this week
- Assam and Meghalaya are already recording surplus rainfall
- Intermittent rain likely on polling day (April 9) in Assam
- Thunderstorms and lightning risk during evening and night hours
Pre-monsoon activity over Northeast India is expected during this week. Assam & Meghalaya have already received double the amount of rainfall this season. With the rainy week ahead, the margin of surplus will increase further. The poll-bound state of Assam will have the risk of intermittent showers on the polling day—09 Apr 2026. These spells will be more likely during early morning, later half of the day, and night.
Multiple factors are influencing the rainfall activity over the Northeast region. There is a cyclonic circulation over Central Assam and the Bangladesh region. Another cyclonic circulation is placed over North Bihar and adjoining areas. These two systems are keeping the trough running through the Valley. An anticyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal is pushing moist southwesterly winds over the region. Under the combined effect of these systems, the entire region will continue with pre-monsoon showers during this week.
Lower Assam and its southeastern parts will be more vulnerable to inclement weather conditions on 09th April 2026. The locations at risk will include Dhubri, Golpara, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Nalbari, Guwahati, Dispur, Cachar, Haflong, Dima Hasao, Silchar, and Karimganj. Rest parts of the state will have light rainfall activity. Rain and thundershowers will become more pronounced in the late evening and night. The remnant effect spills over to the morning hours with reduced intensity and spread. Exercise caution to avoid exposure in the open during thunderstorm and lightning strikes.
