The weather system over the country:

Cyclone Montha has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm at 05:30 hours IST today, October 28. It is around 150 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), around 250 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), around 320 km southwest of Visakhapatnam, and around 520 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha). It is likely to move in a north-northwest direction and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam near Kakinada during the evening or night of today, October 28, as a severe cyclonic storm. At the time of landfall, wind speed can be 90 to 100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph.

A storm surge of about 1 meter above astronomical tide is expected, which may cause inundation over low-lying areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh during the time of landfall.

The depression over the east-central Arabian Sea has moved in a north-northeast direction with a speed of 20 kmph during the past 6 hours. It is likely to move nearly in the north-northeast direction across the east-central Arabian Sea during the next 48 hours.

A cyclonic circulation lies over Haryana.

A trough extends from the cyclonic circulation associated with the depression over the east-central Arabian Sea to west Madhya Pradesh across the northeast Arabian Sea and south Gujarat between 1.5 and 3.1 km above mean sea level.

The western disturbance is seen as a trough in mid-tropospheric westerly winds with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level, running roughly along longitude 70°E to the north of latitude 30°N.

Light to moderate rain with one or two heavy spells occurred over north coastal Tamil Nadu, east Gujarat, and north Konkan & Goa.

Light to moderate rain occurred over Gujarat, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Kerala, coastal Karnataka, north interior Karnataka, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana, northeast Madhya Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh, and Lakshadweep.

Light rain occurred over north Bihar, Sikkim, and parts of Vidarbha.

Light to moderate rain with a few heavy spells may occur over coastal areas of Odisha, parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Vidarbha, north Konkan & Goa, and south Gujarat.

Light to moderate rain is possible over Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, east Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Karnataka, Kerala, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Light rain is possible over Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep.

Sea conditions will remain rough to very rough over north coastal Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the Odisha coast.

Sea conditions along the Gangetic West Bengal coast will remain rough.
