Cyclone Montha has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm at 05:30 hours IST today, October 28. It is around 150 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), around 250 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), around 320 km southwest of Visakhapatnam, and around 520 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha). It is likely to move in a north-northwest direction and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam near Kakinada during the evening or night of today, October 28, as a severe cyclonic storm. At the time of landfall, wind speed can be 90 to 100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph.
A storm surge of about 1 meter above astronomical tide is expected, which may cause inundation over low-lying areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh during the time of landfall.
The depression over the east-central Arabian Sea has moved in a north-northeast direction with a speed of 20 kmph during the past 6 hours. It is likely to move nearly in the north-northeast direction across the east-central Arabian Sea during the next 48 hours.

A trough extends from the cyclonic circulation associated with the depression over the east-central Arabian Sea to west Madhya Pradesh across the northeast Arabian Sea and south Gujarat between 1.5 and 3.1 km above mean sea level.
The western disturbance is seen as a trough in mid-tropospheric westerly winds with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level, running roughly along longitude 70°E to the north of latitude 30°N.
