The month of October is one of the least rainy months for Delhi, along with November. Despite the timely withdrawal of the monsoon on 24th September 2025, the capital city unusually received significant rainfall in the first week of October. Thereafter, a prolonged dry spell haunted the city and its suburbs, which is likely to continue for some more days. The typical winter chill is yet to set in, but the layer of pollution has been one of the worst in recent years during this month.

Courtesy of cyclonic activity across both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea during the month, the altered wind pattern resulted in more clouds and mist and less heat during this period. Accordingly, the average day temperature was 31.4°C against the normal of 33°C, and the minimum temperature stayed at 20.1°C, slightly above the normal of 19.5°C. It has equaled a similar record earlier held in 2022. October 2024, however, was the warmest in recent times, with an average temperature in excess of 35°C.

The low-level winds are likely to revert to normal westerlies today itself, but more prominently from tomorrow onwards. However, the winds will continue to be light. With this, a marginal drop in temperature is likely during the night, and the minimum could slip to 17°C as against 21.6°C recorded this morning. There is a likelihood of a western disturbance arriving on 4th November 2025, which will again change the wind flow to southeasterly, resulting in a rise in night temperatures on 4th and 5th November. Though it is a little early to say, the capital city may witness light rain accompanied by this reversal of wind pattern. Following the clearance of weather activity, the mercury will drop from mid-next week onwards. The winds will also pick up and set the stage for the much-awaited ‘welcome’ winter chill.
